《利瑪竇書信集》收錄了本書收錄了利瑪竇1580年至1609年之間從印度和中國寄出的50餘封信件,幾乎包括了目前已發現的所有利瑪竇書信,其中還有兩封信是從未公開發表過的。這些信的收信人包括利瑪竇的領導、師長、朋友、家人,內容多為傳教工作的情況匯報以及個人見聞,這些信從另一個角度還原出明末耶穌會在華傳教事業從無到有的大概發展輪廓,具有極高的史料價值。同時,因為收信人也有朋友和家人,所以其中必然有利瑪竇本人的情感流露,從中可以窺見利瑪竇的內心世界。
