[Martyrs of Soochow. 1950-1951]

"Letters of postulation 1950 (Cover letters from bishops—addressed to Ignatius Kiong, Bishop of Shanghai)," i.e., Gong Pinmei 龔品梅, 1901-2000. The collection also contains copies (?) of letters sent by Kiong.

Typescript and manuscript letters in French and Latin.

Concerns the martyrdom of António José Henriques 黃安多 (1707-1748), Tristano de Attimis 譚方濟 (1701-1748), and two Chinese catechists.

(Kiong to Fumasoni-Bionchi [?], March 12, 1951). The canonization of these four, Kiong argues in the letter, would strengthen the resolve of Chinese Catholics in the face of the "graves épreuves qui sont maintenant les nôtres."
