| Note | [Frederic J. Foley archive] 3 archival boxes mostly containing photographic, medium-format contact prints, with some related letters, news clippings, and pamphlets. In a letter to Edward Malatesta, S. J. (Ma Aide 馬愛德), dated July 30, 1985, in Guam (Box 1, Item 1.1), Foley writes that he is donating his collection of 85.000 photographic negatives covering American Jesuits between 1951 and 1973, in addition to photos of a few famous Chinese individuals. We assume that the contact prints were made on the basis of these negatives. The negatives themselves are not catalogued as part of this collection. |

Some of the material was previously catalogued as part of the collection "[Persecution of Catholics in China] / collected by Fr. Francis A. The parts of the inventory referring to folders in the present collection are reproduced below: 1 linear ft. of clippings, copies, and extracts from various Catholic mission journals, newletters, and newspapers concerning the persecution of Catholics in China from 1952-1968. Collected by Fr. Francis A. Rouleau after his expulsion from China, and arranged chronologically in 28 folders. Held in the Rouleau-Malatesta Archives of the Ricci Institute. This draft was stored at the Ricci Institute in Taipei before being moved to the Ricci Institute. Our materials appear to date primarily from the late 1950s. |
