The Robsham Theater Arts Center premiered as a performance venue on October 31, 1981, with a production of Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe’s Camelot. Featured as King Arthur was a special guest, the musical film star Gordon MacCrae (Billy Bigelow in Carousel, Curly in Oklahoma). The 32,000-square-foot facility, named for E. Paul Robsham Jr., who died in an automobile accident following his freshman year at Boston College, houses a 591-seat main theater, the 200-seat black box Bonn Studio Theater, and a large lobby exhibition space. Since opening 30 years ago, Robsham’s main stage has spotlighted four works annually, by playwrights ranging from Shakespeare to Sondheim to student authors. @BC presents scenes from the first 121 shows, captured during dress rehearsals by photographer Lee Pellegrini.
