Reflecting my experience as a nurse in cardiac surgical care and as a primary care nurse practitioner, I am studying how healthcare providers use existing guidelines to decide on cardiac treatment for patients and, similarly, how patients decide whether or not to follow their regimens. Understanding why patients do or don't follow these plans may help primary care providers develop more effective ways to prescribe treatment.
