Boston College team photograph, 1969

In 1969, for only the second time since 1912, BC and Holy Cross did not play. A hepatitis outbreak at Holy Cross caused the cancellation of all but its team’s first two games. Seventy-five players and a coach contracted the illness, which was traced to contaminated water. While the Holy Cross team recuperated, Boston College replaced the annual Jesuit game with a trip to Syracuse where, 25-point underdogs, they upset the Orangemen 35-10.
