As Boston College strengthened its football program in the 1960s and 1970s, speculation was that the rivalry was doomed. The 1977 game (left), which matched a 6-4 Boston College against a 1-9 Holy Cross, was supposed to be a walkover for BC, which had won every series game since 1967 and whose roster included eight men who would be drafted by NFL teams that year alone. The upset temporarily revived hope that the series was still viable.
