Shangshu zhengjie 尚書正解.
Compiled by Wu Quan 吳荃 (zi Sunyou 蓀右) of Danyang 丹陽 (Jiangsu).
Twelve juan with one supplementary juan. Bamboo paper in twelve volumes with a blue jacket, Qing edition. Published by the Shenliu tang 深柳堂.

According to the title page, this book had been approved by two Hanlin academicians, Feng 馮 and Zhu 朱 (for their full names, see below). On the same page there is a short introduction to this book:

We have invited [Mr. Wu] to study different texts and to make a balanced interpretation of the Shangshu. It is likened to a gown made of little bits of fur from under the forelegs of animals, or to honey obtained from distillation of flowers. Scholars who read it should feel more enthusiastic and beginners who consult it will banish all their doubts. It is indeed a treasure for the interpretation of the Classics and a good guide for the writing of eight legged essays. Let this be known to all those who are interested.
A preface by the compiler, Wu Quan (jinshi of 1700), written in the seventh month of Kangxi 29 (1690) in the Shenliu tang, can be found at the beginning of the supplementary juan. This is followed by a preface by Liu Mei 劉梅 (zi Xunfu 訓夫, jinshi of 1658), written in the sixth month of Kangxi 27 (1688). Then follow general remarks on the book and

1. List of those who helped in the proofreading.
2. Discussion on the similarity and difference of essay themes.
3. Diagram of the Shujing zhengjie 書經正解.
4. Diagram of the Zhengjie duben 正解讀本, which is the Yugong 禹貢, a chapter of the Shangshu.

On folio 12 of juan 1 the names are mentioned of the four scholars who gave approval to this book:

1. Liu Xunfu 劉訓夫 (i.e., Liu Mei) of Jiuhe 九河 (Hebei),
2. Feng Yisheng 馮懿生 (i.e., Feng Yunsu 馮雲驌, jinshi of 1676) of Sanjin 三晉 (Shanxi),
3. Zhu Xichang 朱錫鬯 (i.e., Zhu Yizun 朱彝尊, 1629–1709; cf. ECCP 1:182–185) of Xiuzhou 秀州 (Zhejiang) and
4. Gao . . . (zi:) Zihong 高紫紅 of Anchang 安昌 (Zhejiang).

In juan 2–12 the name of Liu Xunfu is replaced by that of Huang . . . (zi:) Jiongzhai 絅齊 of Xinhui 新會 (Guangdong).

Cf. Courant 2729. The Naikaku Bunko owns the same edition: (Shenliu tang huiji) Shangshu daquan zhengjie (深柳堂彙輯) 尚書大全正解 or Shangshu zhengjie 尚書正解, by Wu Quan, twelve juan and one supplementary juan, twelve ce, Shenliu tang edition of 1690 (NBC, p. 8).

Xu Guangqi shouchaoben Shangshu zhushi 徐光啟手抄本尚書注釋.
By Xu Guangqi 徐光啟.
Manuscript, bamboo paper in one ce with a paper case. 27.5 x 14.8 cm.

The whole manuscript consists of 112 folios with six blank folios. There are five columns to each half folio. The folios are outlined in red square frames but the color has turned gray. The handwriting is beautiful and graceful.

The following passages from the Shujing are copied out by Xu Guangqi, some of them are annotated in red ink (indicated by ‘a’ below):

The Shujing (Classic of Documents), referred to in early times simply as Shu or Shangshu 尚書, is the earliest collection of historical fragments known to us. The transmission of this early collection was attended by many vicissitudes in later ages. According to tradition, the collection, as ‘edited’ by Confucius, comprised a hundred ‘chapters’ or separate documents. Of these, only fifty-eight are said to have been handed down to us. Out of these fifty-eight, at least thirty are of questionable authorship. The remaining twenty-eight chapters (sometimes counted as twenty-nine), as transmitted by Fu Sheng 伏勝 (270?–175 B.C.) in their new definitive form, have been accepted by critical scholars as essentially authentic.
