It is only a revival, in modified form, of "Le Correspondant Chinois", a French weekly begun in April, 1939, by a group of Catholic Fathers and laymen, to give French-speaking Catholics in China. and abroad accurate information on our country at war”-- Issue 1 (1943), p. 4. This journal introduces Chinese history and culture to an English-speaking audience, primarily U.S. servicemen in China during WWII.

No. 47 (1920)-no. 54 (1921) called new series. "Revue bimestrielle illustrée" Bound volumes 1-17 (1898-1934); vols. 18-33 are numbered by issue, with Nos. de Guerre (1943-1946) in pocket binder. After the war, vol. 20 begins again with number 1. Our last issue is no. 215 (Dec 1987-Jan 1988).

Publication provides many photographs, maps, statistics, and local news, including bandits, civil wars, seminaries, hospitals, native clergy, martyrs of the Boxer Rebellion (vol. 3), and other information.
