Illustrations include Chinese emperors, games, clothing, tools, buildings, precious stones, ceremonies, flowers, plants, animals, the human body, weapons, trebuchets, military technology, spears, halberds, etc."--Cf. "Sancai tuhui 三才圖會 (1609). 106 juan by Wang Qi 王圻, jinshi 1565, from Shanghai. General encyclopedia, with many maps and illustrations, including, to a large part, materials on the Ming period. Divided according to the 'Three Powers 三才' into the following fourteen sections. The juan of each section are numbered separately; there is no through numbering:
(i) 天文, Astronomy, 4 juan.
(ii) 地理, Geography, 16 juan.
(iii) 人物, Men, 14 juan, containing portraits and biographies of emperors, famous officials, Buddhist and Daoist monks, and pictures of foreigners of actual or imaginary countries.
(iv) 時令, Directives for times and seasons, 4 juan.
(v) 宮室, Buildings, 4 juan.
(vi) 器用, Utensils, Implements, 12 juan, such as ceremonial utensils, ships, horses, fishing utensils, arms (including firearms), utensils for agriculture, for weaving, and for irrigation, furniture and other household utensils, etc.
(vii) 身體, Human physiology, 7 juan.
(viii) 衣服, Clothing for official and private use, 3 juan.
(ix) 人事, Human matters, 10 juan, such as music with instructions for playing, games, calligraphy and painting with instructions, dances, breathing gymnastics [qigong], cock-fights, etc.
(x) 儀制, Ceremonies, rites, rituals, 8 juan.
(xi) 珍寶, Precious things, 2 juan.
(xii) 聞史, Literary history, 4 juan, dealing with the Confucian classics and with poetry.
(xiii) 鳥獸, Birds and beasts, 6 juan.
(xiv) 草木, Plants and trees, 12 juan.
