I grew up in a remote village in central China during a time when not many local industries were present. Much of my childhood time was spent in farm communities where corn and wheat were grown. While the sky may have been blue, living conditions were very poor. These experiences gave me a love of nature and a strong desire to improve peoples? living conditions. This led to my current research interest in producing energy using "green" technology. In particular, I am interested in using the sun's vast energy to generate electricity directly or to generate clean energy using hydrogen. I work with materials on the nano-scale, typically thinner than a hundredth of a human hair. I hope that the new energy-generating techniques will help us sustain improved living standards while having minimum negative impact on the environment. This way, we all will have a better future.
