Projects: I will continue to work on the film, Women’s Voices, Women’s Lives, which is about HIV/AIDS-prevention for at-risk inner-city teen girls, and women living with HIV. I will also be working on funded research projects that test the efficacy of culturally-relevant and gender-sensitive prevention interventions for African-American women with chronic life-threatening illnesses like HIV/AIDS. We are also beginning to discuss and develop projects focusing on the experiences and needs of women in Vietnam and Barbados. Disadvantaged women from these cultures often do not speak openly about sexual practices and may accept lifestyles that include prostitution or spouses’ multiple partnerships; few take self-protective health measures.
