Twenty-eight faculty will join Boston College this academic year. Of the 16 women and 13 men, some are beginning their academic careers, while others are sufficiently eminent that they have held endowed chairs elsewhere. They include a geologist who studies stalagmites to learn about prehistoric weather patterns, a theologian who writes on Islamic culture, several synthesizers of organic molecules, and analysts of consumer buying habits and of the nutritional needs of pre-term infants. The group also includes (beginning in January) an appointment to the long-vacant Davis S. Nelson Chair. We introduce 11 new faculty this month and will introduce others in forthcoming editions of @BC.
