Note | 四福音書及使徒行傳 = The Gospels and Acts in English and Mandarin / published by the American Bible Society. Cover title: Gospels and Acts, English and Mandarin. English and Chinese in parallel columns. "The translation of the Bible into Northern Mandarin (i.e. Peking Mandarin) was tardy compared to those into other Chinese languages. The first appearance of any portion of the Bible in it did not occur until 1864. The effort of achieving a satisfactory translation was entrusted to the Peking Corresponding Committee of the British and Foreign Bible Society, and the work offered here is an example of that committee's translation. One of the divisive issues that the committee never successfully resolved was the "term question," that is, the choice of words in Mandarin for "God" and "Holy Spirit." Some "Committee translations" use some terms, other translations use others; we are not certain on which side of the "term question" this particular edition fits ....
