Collection of memorials and other political writings by 425 (+ 5 in the supplement) personalities beginning with Song Lian (1310-1381) and ending with Chen Zushou (jinshi 1634) selected from the collected works of the authors or from other sources. Following the main table of contents short biographies of all authors are given. More documents from the later part than from the earlier part of the dynasty are included. A rather large amount of material concerns border defence. Since in general the complete unabbreviated texts of the documents which are otherwise difficult to find or wholly unavailable are reproduced, this work represents a particularly important source.... Huang Ming jingshi wenbian 皇明經世文編 (Ming documents on statecraft) ... " ... the most important topically arranged collection of Ming memorials (and other writings). The 3,145 entries (which are quoted in full) were selected from hundreds of bieji and other sources written by 430 senior officials during the course of the Ming, both in the central government and in the provinces. Many of the sources quoted have been lost, hence the value of this collection. The intention of the chief compilers (childhood friends from the Yangzi delta and Ming loyalists) was to concentrate their readers' minds at a time of impending disaster. The emphasis therefore is on practical matters of government and administrations, especially national security. The arrangement is by author and by subject matter in a chronological frame.
