What the Evidence Shows
The presented findings are the broadest and most in-depth synthesis of quantitative evidence on the human health effects of plastics. The evidence comes from observational research – this enables the investigation of associations between human plastic and plastic associated chemical exposures and health outcomes that develop over time. The most alarming findings are shown below.
The data underpinning the presented findings are gathered using a peer-reviewed umbrella review methodology. This is a method of synthesizing findings from multiple systematic reviews and meta-analyses on a particular topic - in this case plastics and human health.
