Karen A. Daley, M.S. ’04, Ph.D. ’10, is the 2017 recipient of the Dean Rita P. Kelleher Award. From 2010 to 2014, Daley served as president of the American Nurses Association (ANA), the nation’s largest professional nursing organization. A former staff nurse at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and founding president of ANA Massachusetts—formerly known as the Massachusetts Association of Registered Nurses—Daley was inducted as a Fellow into the American Academy of Nursing in 2006 and was recognized as a Living Legend by ANA Massachusetts. Daley is a nationally recognized advocate for sharps injury prevention and was a key proponent for statewide and federal legislation to mandate use of safer sharps devices in health care settings. She currently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees for the American Nurses Foundation and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Dean Susan Gennaro will present the Kelleher Award. Daley and Patricia Delaney, deputy director in the Office of University Communications, will discuss health care leadership in changing times. A reception will follow.
