Four years out of Boston College, Kevin Allocca ’06, a communication and film major, went to work for Google, where he is now YouTube’s head of culture and trends. He returned to campus November 7 at the invitation of the Career Center and the Office of News and Public Affairs, to talk with students about negotiating the “unconventional career path.” Allocca’s own early path includes: director of the campus improv group Hello . . . Shovelhead!; humor columnist for the Heights; internships with the Miss Florida USA Pageant, a greeting card company, and Huffington Post’s now defunct political satire website, 23/6 (where he rose to associate editor); beat reporter for Mediabistro, covering television news. “Most of the jobs I’ve had didn’t exist before I had them,” he said as he offered his audience in Devlin 008 “five important realizations.”
