In 1931, Theodore Marier and Herbert Kenney, members of the Class of 1934, composed “Sweep Down the Field,” a fight song they originally titled “Maroon and Gold.” It debuted on October 24 during a football game against Marquette, and nine years later a Heights editor endorsed it over “For Boston” (the school’s fight song since at least 1917), judging the latter “lifeless” and Marier and Kenney’s tune full of “swing spirit.” Click above to hear “Sweep Down the Field.” A rendition of “For Boston” by the Screaming Eagles Marching Band can be heard here.
