Torch bearers

Kidder introduced Farmer by saying that there were many lessons in Farmer’s story. “The first moral is that you should pay attention. Don’t join America’s collective amnesia toward the suffering that can seem so distant, but that in fact surrounds us; it surrounds us on the island of Haiti, on the island of Roxbury. That is, don’t forget about the forgotten people in the world.” The second moral, Kidder added, alluding to the personal sacrifices Farmer has made: “You do not want to try to reproduce the life of Paul Farmer. What you want to do is take heart from [his] example.”
