1959: Who is John Madden?

With a predominantly Irish enrollment, the number of students at Boston College always exceeded the number of student surnames. When the 1,500 members of the class of 1959 received their diplomas, they heard one name read three times. Among the graduates that year were (from left) John A. Madden, from Dorchester, who received a B.A. in English, John J. Madden, from Brighton, who received a B.S. in economics, and John S. Madden, from Framingham, who received a B.S. in finance. The photograph was provided by BC’s public relations staff to local newspapers.
