1972: Pop maestro

Honorary degree recipient Arthur Fiedler, the legendary director of the Boston Pops, conducts an orchestra—presumably, the Pops Esplanade group—in Alumni Stadium at Boston College’s 109th commencement on June 5. Fiedler, an astute businessman as well as a showman, had just released an album titled “Arthur Fiedler, Superstar,” on which the Boston Pops played, among other astonishments, “Proud Mary” and the Partridge Family’s classic, “I Think I Love You.” No record exists as to the tunes played that day at Alumni Stadium.
