High time

Seventy-three feet above the ground in the Gasson Tower, four bells—named for Jesuit saints Ignatius Loyola, Francis Xavier, Aloysius Gonzaga, and John Berchman—mark the hours at Boston College. A staircase just visible behind the bells is the only means of entry to the tower and is accessed via a locked door in the building; the tightly spiraled staircase to the right of the bells leads up to the tower’s roof. Open arches offer views of Boston, Newton, Brookline, and surrounding communities.
