My experiences growing up as an African American woman fostered my commitment to social, racial, and economic justice, and led me to social work and academia. I study the challenges experienced by those who are vulnerable and systematically disempowered and disenfranchised. Currently, I am studying the impact of the relationship between race and mental health on the juvenile justice system's treatment of male juvenile offenders. My goal is to have a positive influence on practice, research, and public policy in this area.
