In teaching biblical courses at the School of Theology and Ministry, I emphasize the link between theological interpretation of biblical texts and the history and cultures from which those texts emerged. Trusting God can be a struggle for every generation. Yet, by recognizing and better understanding how our ancestors in faith engaged that struggle, we enhance our ability to identify with them and with the expressions of their faith as preserved in the Bible. Currently, my research in the languages and cultures of the ancient Near East focuses on psalms, ritual, myth, and blessing.
