A Nursery Song for Christmas Eve

The day burns to its close,
Near and more near the waves of darkness flow,
The nursery candles flicker and sink low.

Turn ye from dying fires,
Look up sweet eyes, I fling the window high
The magian star rekindles the sky!

Bursts out the golden door,
The young King tumbles down the heavenly stair
Ere hurrying angels stay their wings in air.

Run to Him, children, run,
The little King has travelled very far,
To light your Christmas candle at His star.
