First performed in the eighteenth century, the play is a commedia dell’arte production featuring a young king who must choose a wife with the help of a magic statue in a fairy tale kingdom complete with a talking parrot, acrobats, jugglers, and the king stag. The Robsham Theater describes its version, which runs from October 13 to 16, as “part carnival and part Cirque du Soleil.”
