John Ebel, director of Boston College’s Weston Observatory, reviews a map record of New England’s earthquakes with Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor Kerry Healy. Healy and several hundred other visitors were at the observatory, 10 miles west of Boston, for a November 14 ceremony that celebrated the seismograph station’s 75th anniversary. While guests milled at a reception that followed the ceremony, nearby seismographs began registering a 7.0 earthquake taking place in Japanese waters. For more on the station, visit the observatory’s website, BC Chronicle, or New England Cable News television.
