Paula Mathieu and children

For the past three years, Paula Mathieu (middle), an assistant professor of English at Boston College, and volunteer students from BC have conducted weekly writing and drawing workshops with children living in Sandra’s Lodge, a transitional assistance family shelter in Waltham, Massachusetts. Together they produced “Kids 2 Cents,” which is a supplement published in Spare Change News, a biweekly newspaper about issues related to homelessness. The most recent six-page volume of “Kids 2 Cents” features children’s drawings, stories, and poems, along with articles by BC students about their experiences working with the children. One child’s contributions are reprinted here.
