Students

Joseph Bergin, a science teacher at the Garfield School in Brighton, Massachusetts, and three of his fifth-grade students look at a seismograph of the December 26 earthquake that caused the tsunami in South Asia. As part of the Boston College Educational Seismology Project—a partnership between the University’s Weston Observatory and several Boston-area elementary and high schools—seismograms are installed in schools, and teachers work with BC’s Lynch School of Education and College of Arts and Sciences to develop curricula in math, science, and technology. The project is funded by the National Science Foundation and Carnegie Corp. For more information on the project, click here, and for tsunami research, visit the Weston Observatory website.
