With video cameras furnished by @BC, four members of the Class of 2011 chronicled Commencement Day, May 23, 2011, from daybreak on the roof of the Beacon Street garage to the ceremony in Alumni Stadium. To view a montage of their films, click on “play video,” above.

Some 2,200 undergraduates and 1,300 graduate students received degrees at Boston College’s 135th Commencement exercises. In remarks that opened the ceremony, University President William P. Leahy, SJ, urged them to “approach life as a vocation or calling, not merely as a career.” Ray LaHood, U.S. Secretary of Transportation, was the Commencement speaker. Joining LaHood as honorary degree recipients were James S. Davis, chairman of New Balance Athletic Shoe, Inc.; Anne M. Davis, vice chairman of New Balance Athletic Shoe, Inc., and managing trustee of the New Balance Charitable Foundation; James P. McIntyre ’57, M.Ed.’61, Ed.D.’67, a senior vice president of Boston College; and Sylvia Q. Simmons, M.Ed.’62, Ph.D.’90, the retired president of the American Student Assistance Corporation and a Trustee Associate of Boston College.
