Poet Paul Mariani and illustrator Barry Moser, close friends for more than 30 years, spoke with Boston College Magazine editor Ben Birnbaum about their new book Deaths and Transfigurations: New Poems (Paraclete Press, 2005). The collaboration features 39 poems by Mariani accompanied by Moser’s original engravings.

Paul Mariani is an award-winning poet, the University Professor of English at Boston College, and the author of 14 books, including biographies of William Carlos Williams, Robert Lowell, and Hart Crane. Barry Moser is a renowned book designer and illustrator whose work appears in nearly 300 titles and in many collections, including the Metropolitan Museum, the British Museum, and the Library of Congress.

“Illuminated verse” was taped in the Burns Library’s Thompson Room, in Chestnut Hill, on September 27, 2005.
