A severely revised catechism with key scripture quotes as Prof. Groome recommends would be helpful as many younger adults today who went to CCD in the 70’s and 80’s really know very little about the Catholic faith in their adult years. I am appalled at my own children’s lack of knowledge, as opposed to mine (I’m in my 60’s). However, I stand with Rev. Hans Kung and Retired Australian Roman Catholic Bishop Geoffrey Robinson in calling for a collegial discussion among all bishops with input from other lay and religious – in a call to return to Vatican II directives and examine customs as well which do not come from Christ – the layers and layers of encrusted “beliefs”, canon laws and even papal proclamations.

I took 2 semesters of Prof. Groome’s Catholicism class during my freshman year in 1983-84. He was one of my favorite professors at BC and one of the most progressive instructors I had at the University. It was fun listening to him 27 years later, not during a Monday night 3 hr. lecture, but in the privacy of my home office!

Let’s also drop the Church’s 2010 Marxist “Social Justice” movement, and replace it with the 1950s Cardinal Cushing Catholic-Taught Virtue called the “Protestant Work Ethic”.
