Each year, students in the College of Arts and Sciences who have excelled in their disciplines are selected for the University’s Scholar of the College program. Working closely with a faculty advisor, each student undertakes a research study that culminates in the presentation of a thesis. In this slideshow of nine scholars’ portraits, faculty mentors describe the significance of each student’s research.
“This program is an opportunity for some of our best students to position themselves for acceptance to premier graduate programs,” said Mark O’Connor, director of the Honors Program.
The Scholars of the College program was established in 1958 with the selection of two students annually. Today, 20 students are selected to participate. The students who achieve Scholar of the College status are recognized at Commencement.
