The Sesquicentennial Mass at Fenway Park on 15 September will be forever one of my proudest memories of these two fine Jesuit Schools. And there have been many great moments since I entered BC High as a freshman at the Mass Ave Annex in September 1949. Fr. Himes was correct when he said in his beautiful and moving homily that we BC and BC High Grads are very privileged and should give back more for all that we received from our Jesuit education. I plan to do just that for whatever time I have left.

It made me proud to be part of the BC Community. It took an incredible amount of hard work, insight, and talent to coordinate such a large event and it was worth it all. It was perfect from beginning to end. From the well organized bus rides from campus and then back to the warm welcome we received entering Fenway-it was all perfectly orchestrated. The music was beautiful and I will never forget Fr. Hime’s inspirational message to us all. What a great way to start off what I know will be a very special year at BC!

Being a priest and from Boston just added to it. I ran into classmates I haven’t seen in years and sons of friends of my father’s classmates (1929). And the weather cooperated. What else could you ask for.

One correction: In the caption to image 5, the Church of the Immaculate Conception was not merely “next door to the original home of Boston College.” As BC’s “collegiate chapel” –a designation it maintained even after BC moved to Chestnut Hill, and BCHS moved to Columbia Point–it served as an integral part of that original home. In fact, A History of Boston College notes that the groundbreaking ceremony for the church in 1858 “must also be considered as the laying of the cornerstone of Boston College, because both buildings were built simultaneously as one project.” (Dunigan, p. 37)

The Mass at Fenway Park was a fine manifestation of faith and of evangelization.
