Eighteen undergraduate poets, each from an area college or university, gathered on the evening of April 19 in the Murray Function Room to recite—or perform—their work at the Greater Boston Intercollegiate Poetry Festival. The event, which until 2001 had rotated among area campuses for 15 years, was revived in 2006 by English professor and poet Suzanne Matson, with support from Boston College Magazine and the Office of the Provost.
Following a keynote address by Lloyd Schwartz, author and Pulitzer Prize-winning critic, who is the Frederick S. Troy Professor of English at the University of Massachusetts at Boston, each student took a three-minute turn to present one or more original poems before an audience of 150 students, family, and faculty mentors.
