On Monday, April 3, more than 250 invited alumnae gathered at the Yawkey Center’s Murray Room for the premiere of the film, “Making Our Place: A History of Women at Boston College.” Pictured with President William P. Leahy, SJ, are (from left to right) Cynthia Egan ’78, co-chair, The Council for Women of Boston College, co-chair Kathleen M. McGillycuddy NC’71, and Vice President Mary Lou DeLong NC’71, liaison to the council. Co-produced by the council and Boston College’s Office of Marketing Communications, the 35-minute film presents an overview of the role women have played at Boston College, from the establishment of the Philomatheia Club, a women’s fundraising group, early in the 20th century, to the advent of full coeducation in 1970. With this May’s commencement exercises, women will for the first time constitute more than 50 percent of the Boston College alumni body, which today numbers some 143,000.
