As recipients of U.S. Fulbright grants, 16 Boston College graduates will travel to 11 countries—Argentina, Austria, Bulgaria, Germany, Israel, Jordan, Korea, South Africa, Spain, Turkey, and Russia—to work as English teaching assistants, pursue a course of study, or conduct research. Three other graduates were named as alternates in the program, which offers more than 1,500 such grants annually. The Fulbright Program was proposed by Arkansas Senator J. William Fulbright and has been administered by the State Department since 1946. Its purpose is to increase “international goodwill through exchange of students in the fields of education, culture, and science.” More than 100 Boston College students have received the grants since 2005.
