As part of its yearlong program of events for new students, the University’s Office of First Year Experience offers summer orientation sessions—seven in all this year—for freshman and transfer students. Attendees of the three-day introduction to Boston College live in University residence halls and dine together at campus facilities. Through social events and meetings with faculty, student leaders, and administrators, they learn about academic expectations, get to know the campus and its resources, and gain a sense of University culture. Students also meet one-on-one with academic advisors to register for first-semester classes. In the Robsham Theater lobby on the final day of an orientation session held earlier this summer, freshmen Margaret O’Neill and Andre Gayraud show off their Superfan T-shirts, which are presented to undergraduate newcomers each year. This year’s shirt reflects the approaching 150th anniversary of Boston College’s founding in 1863 with an inscription that reads, “Honoring the Legacy, Pursuing Greatness—the Sesquicentennial Class of 2013.”
