At an October 11 dinner in a glassed-in pavilion on the Brighton Campus, President William P. Leahy, SJ, launched Light the World: The 150th Anniversary Campaign for Boston College. The $1.5 billion fund drive will support academic program development, faculty expansion, endowed undergraduate financial aid, student formation programs, and capital projects, among other advancements. Leahy told some 400 benefactors who attended the dinner that $520 million had already been pledged by Boston College alumni, parents, and friends, including a record gift of $50 million from an anonymous donor. “Boston College has always set high standards and has never steered away from challenges,” said Leahy. “Light the World expresses Boston College’s mission and its recognition of the world’s need for a great university that joins faith and reason, that pursues knowledge and justice, and that strives to serve society.”
