The Class of 1979 BC Fund Scholarship Update
This fund was established as part of the Class of 1979’s 30th Reunion Gift Campaign last year. Contributions from members of the class totaled more than $55,000, making it possible for two inspiring young people to attend Boston College. Meet one of your Class of 1979 BC Fund Scholars:
Meghan T. Thompson-Wilda, Class of 2013, Connell School of Nursing
Meghan says that she has always been fascinated by the human body and the miracle of birth. Now at Boston College, she is taking strides to realize her dream of becoming a labor and delivery nurse. “I cannot think of a way I would rather spend my life than helping to bring new ones into the world,” she reflects.
Meghan arrived at BC from Chicago, where she graduated from Loyola Academy in Wilmette. An impressive student who received numerous honors, she also brings an extensive portfolio of service experience. An advocate for human rights, Meghan volunteered during the summer through the Borderlinks Program in Nogales, Mexico, helping to analyze the complexities of the immigration and social issues surrounding the border between the US and Mexico. She also received the Ignation Medal of Service in 2008.
Meghan keeps busy on the Heights as a member of Cura and the Student Nurses Association’s freshman representative on the SNA Leader Board. She also holds a work-study position with the Jumpstart program, teaching low-income preschool students to read and write. Meghan extends her gratitude to the donors who made her BC experience possible:
“I know that there are no words to tell you how incredibly grateful I am—or how blessed I have been—because of the Class of ‘79’s charity…Because of this support, I am able to attend Boston College, experience a place that makes me happy, and do the things that I love. I will not ever forget such generosity…”
