Chiyo to yoichirō no sekigahara

Yoichirō, the legitimate son of Hosokawa Tadaoki, married Chiyo, the seventh daughter of Maeda Toshiie, through the mediation of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Their life together as a loving couple was brief. After Hideyoshi’s death, Tokugawa Ieyasu pressured the Hosokawa family to sever ties with the Maeda clan. Tadaoki’s mother, Tama, refused Ishida Mitsunari’s attempt to take her hostage and instead took her own life. Driven into a corner, Chiyo fled the family residence and was reduced to a life of destitution. This masterful historical novel vividly portrays an unexpected and deeply human side of the Battle of Sekigahara.
