The title page is missing. The preface to the first volume, said to have been written by Wang Guangcheng 王光承, lacks the first folio. There is also a preface to the Guoyu jie 國語解 by Wei Zhao and another, and the Guoyu xulu 國語敘錄 itself by Song Xiang 宋庠 (996–1066), together with a list of renowned scholars who had made a study of this book. A table of contents is given at the beginning of each juan. Folio 1a of juan 1 states that the book is annotated by Wei Zhao.
The publication was prepared by Chen Zilong 陳子龍 (1608–1647) of Yunjian 雲間 (Jiangsu), amended by Huang Hong [Gong] 皇肱 and Huang Xianchen 黃獻臣 of Putian 莆田 (Fujian). The proofreaders were Tan Yinmu 譚寅牧, Tan Yinji 譚寅幾, Xiong Jiuyue 熊九岳 and Xiong Jiuzhi 熊九敕 of Fujian. For Huang Xianchen, see JS II, 164.
Wang Guangcheng, the author of the first preface, corrected and wrote a preface (dated Kangxi guichou 癸丑, 1673) for the posthumous edition of the Xu Wending gong Shijing chuan’gao 徐文定公詩經傳稿, written by Xu Guangqi 徐光啟 and edited by his grandson Xu Ermo 徐爾默. Wang Guangcheng (zi 玠友) was a native of the same prefecture as Xu Guangqi.
